As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I help people deal with relationship issues in a productive and sustainable way. I take a relational approach because I find clients’ struggles are usually things that deeply impact their interactions with the people closest to them.
For a long time, I didn’t know that having relationship challenges was common. I assumed things were hard because there was something wrong with me. I was under the illusion that good relationships feel easy, so I stayed silent--it was painful. In grad school, I was blown away when I learned that what I was experiencing in my marriage was “normal” stuff!
The sole purpose of my work now is to help people make sense of the things that cause them to feel lost and alone in relationships. This includes exploring the micro (your relationship dynamics) and the macro (how societal and cultural factors affect your relationship). In particular, the many systems working against our ability to invest the time and energy it takes to get to “happily ever after.” (I'm looking at you ridiculous work culture, terrible child care options, pervasive and antiquated gender/race/ethnicity beliefs, and lack of quality sex/relationship education!)
